Why does NextDesk exist?
To fulfil the author's need to simplify the transfer of small bits of information from one computer to another. Hopefully you will find it useful too.

When was NextDesk created?
The version of NextDesk you see today is the third evolution of an application first written in 2006. The first alpha of this version was completed in late December 2007.

What was the first file to be transferred using NextDesk?

Is NextDesk secure?
NextDesk uses strong public-key encryption to ensure that only the eventual recipient can read the files that you transfer over the internet.

Is NextDesk fast?
If both sender and recipient are online on the same network, NextDesk will use a Direct Connection (DC) to send files. This is more efficient than relaying files via the central server, the latter being used when sender and recipient are on different networks.

Installation

How can I reinstall NextDesk afresh on my computer?
On Windows, you can use Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs to completely remove the NextDesk application.
NextDesk stores your computer's settings in a file within your $HOME or %USERPROFILE% directory. On windows, this might look something like
C:\Documents and Settings\duncanj\.nextdesk
Within this directory, you will find a 'conf' subdirectory, containing the settings file, nextdesk.properties. Delete this file, or rename it to keep a backup.
To install NextDesk again, revisit this website and follow the download instructions.
